How coal trains could choke NW’s economic engines

A new study on rail transportation problems associated with transporting millions of tons of coal from the Powder River Basin was released today in Montana.  The study cited potential impacts on time-sensitive commodities, including grain and manufacturing goods from the Northwest, that are transported to Midwest markets.  The report was sponsored by the Northwest Commission of Resource Councils and offers an interesting exploration of potential implications of increased rail traffic for coal transport.
