Bellingham council member explains vote to take coal train initiative to court

On June 18th, the Bellingham City Council voted to authorize a lawsuit by the Whatcom County Superior Court to keep the citizen initiative to outlaw coal transport through Bellingham off of the November ballot. Michael Lilliquist shares with the Herald an email explaining his decision to join the rest of the council in authorizing the lawsuit. The letter provides an interesting and thorough discussion of Lilliquist’s position and the decision-making process of the Bellingham City Council.
