Abundant coal supplies in China call export plans into question

Some industry analysts are questioning the assumption that China’s demand for imported coal will increase over time, which is often cited as the basis for developing West Coast coal export terminals like the Gateway Pacific Terminal at Cherry Point. A report in the Financial Times by reporter Leslie Hook notes that China may instead invest in the developments necessary to use its own ample coal reserves.
