Army Corps Responds to Gov. John Kitzhaber

The Army Corps of Engineers has responded to Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber’s letter requesting an extensive federal government review of exporting coal to Asia through proposed Northwest ports in Oregon and Washington.  In the Army Corp’s response, they indicate the corps will continue to evaluate each coal export facilities’ permit requirements individually unless they determine in the future that an extension is appropriate under NEPA regulations.

The Power Past Coal coalition has issued a response to the Army Corps letter.  In their response, they reiterate the broad support from elected officials, communities and NW editorial boards that have issued statements supporting a full review of the cumulative impacts from coal exports.
